Spring Break!

Our curriculum has a slow week scheduled for this week - a spring break of sorts. Since we've taken quite a bit of time off lately, I'm using this week to focus more on math & reading.

Punkin's motivation to read has improved a lot. Lately, I had given up trying to get her to practice reading and invested in game-based phonics approach called Happy Phonics. I got a superb deal (almost felt guilty!) on Ebay, and have been very, very pleased with program. We've just been just playing games with her to introduce the phonics "rules" and keep her practicing at least a few words every day. But, she wanted to read a "real book" this week, so, of course, we are. She is excited to find out what happens next. She is improving dramatically. She is still struggling to remember the words long enough to get the flow of the sentences and know what is happening, but that will come in time. She's reading! It's amazing to watch.

She excels at math and it is her favorite! We are learning about odd and even numbers - not too exciting to write about, but very exciting to see her little face light up when she says, "Oh - I get it!"

I love homeschooling because of getting to see those 'Aha' moments!

Sounds like she's making excellent progress. That's such a fun age. I remember when munchkin first started to read. She wanted to start reading big books right away. lol!
