Digestive System

Time for a body update!
(Well, that ranks up there in the top ten list of things I never thought I would say. Along with, no you may not ___________ (fill in the blank with some horrible stunt) to your brother. Hmmm .... maybe a post for another day. )

We've been working on the digestive system and urinary system this week. Here is Punkin showing off her body. The intestines are not secured yet, so she has to stay laying down for the moment. As I write this, I'm thinking our "body" needs a name. Suggestions, anyone?

So, now it is time for your anatomy quiz. Here is a close up of the new "organs" - with the intestines and without. The "organs" included are:

A. stomach
B. small intestine
C. large intestine
D. Pancreas
E. Gall Bladder
F. Liver
G. Bladder
H. Kidneys

Can you figure out which ones are which?

I'm coming to believe that it is usual with homeschooling, at least at this house, for mom to be learning as much as (or more) than the kids. However, this is one of Punkin's interests, so this unit is SO MUCH FUN! If I may gush for a minute - it is such a privilege to watch her "get it" and be interested and asking me more questions than I can answer. So, I'm looking in the books for the answers and then trying to figure out how to explain the answer in 5yr old terms. It's a little crazy sometimes.. but for this momma, it's totally worth it.

You go ahead and gush, girl!!

So, Punkin, is she like, over 5' feet? She looks so long!

Names? Mini-me? PJ (punkin junior)?

I learned this week that insects have 6 legs, so spiders are not insects. I am learning all the time too, and I love it. Right now, I don't want it any other way.

Great post! I LOVED doing projects like this with my girls! I remember thinking the same thing as you-- I wonder who's learning more from this...? Also....hmmmm... who's having more fun...lol! We did some social studies projects on other countries of the world and found out some incredible info.. that I don't remember learning before...I guess that doesn't mean I didn't learn it!! Sometimes I think I've forgotten more than I know...
Take care
Heather

I wouldn't even try to name the organs. I'm too busy scanning! hehe I love these posts about how you are teaching your children and yes I'm sure you are learning as much as they. I know I'm even learning a little bit from your posts. For a name, how about "bits & pieces".

I'm always amazed at how much I'm learning (re-learning) as we're going over stuff. Great job!!!

That's a GREAT way to teach it. I had to go back in my archives to find this picture and post of my son's tutorial for his girlfriend. It's probably good that you're teaching her this at her age!!

Blessings.

Creative people annoy me:-)

I don't know how you do it. I would NEVER come up with that.

I found the post I was looking for!! Yep, it's me, waaaay back in the beginning of the ol' blog!

I had to chuckle at HJ's comment above - you'll have to be sure to come back and read it! :)

I'm thinking to save time, we may just cut the patterns from paper and color - I already traced him and I think we could just stick everything on. I'm afraid I'll get too overwhelmed if I try to sew because my sewing machine is packed away while we wait for a little bit of work to be done to our basement.

Anyway, thanks for letting me hang out back here! LOL
