Homeschool Open House

Welcome to my Homeschool open house! I'm WeaverMom, and I have 2 blessings - a 6 year old daughter, Punkin; and a 3 year old son, SnugBug.

We started homeschooling Punkin in preschool using the Weaver curriculum, and are doing Volume 2 this year for 1st grade.

Your Homeschool Day, what does it look like? We start our days with our morning routine - make beds, eat breakfast. Our day is divided into 4 sections - the Weaver core, math, writing, & reading. I usually let Punkin choose the order to do them.

What curriculum will you be using? Do you not use a curriculum? Do you homeschool for FREE? Tell us about it!
I thought about trying the "free" route, but decided that I needed a little more structure and I don't have time to do it myself. We chose Weaver Interlock for preschool because it is a complete preschool curriculum and it is based on the days of Creation. I've continued with Weaver because it is based on the bible, it is a hands-on learning approach, and it provides me some structure for the year - but it is still flexible enough that I can easily add whatever books I want, fun internet games, a lapbook, etc... I can tailor it to Punkin's interests.

Do you schedule your day to the minute or go with the flow with no real structure?
We're in the middle. We start at 9:00, but the day kinda flows from there. If we really get into the material or if we are having a "it's like pulling teeth" day, you might find us doing math after supper. But, usually, we finish by 1:00.

Do you homeschool in a homeschool room, at the kitchen table, at a desk, in the park on the grass?
We move around. Kitchen table for writing or drawing activities, couch for reading, outside as much as possible!

Thanks to Tiany at Less of Me -More of Him for hosting the open house! If you homeschool, click here to learn more about how to participate!

Have a great year. I'm hoping you don;t have too many math-after-supper days! :)

We have used free curriculum in the past. I have a step sister in law who works for the school system and gave me boxes of books to work with. While that was most appreciated and saved us a ton of money, I decided I didn't like not choosing my materials myself and I especially didn't like the fact that invariably, answer books were not included in what she gave me. Now that my son is going into 6th grade math, I want answer pages. Not because I can't do the math, but because I don't have the time to spend working out all of the problems in order to see if he got the correct answers or not!

Have a great year!

You know, I shouldn't be reading this...part of me is tempted to buy this, but we really are happy with what we are doing now.

Is it just me or do you sometimes feel that you'd like to try something else besides what you are using, just wondering.

You are so organized and scheduled, I really pray that I will be able to be like that one day. You are a very inspiring woman and mother!

God Bless,
Amber
